Prepping for Demolition
This blog thread posted by the Irving Inquisition uses some explicit language, as well as depicting some aspects of life in North Minneapolis that some readers may find objectionable. Reader discretion is advised.
1st Up: Meldahl’s Slum Spot Prepped for Demolition
Observe 1511 22nd Avenue North. A crew of city workers appeared with a bobcat and other heavy equipment. When asked what they were doing, they responded that they were disconnecting the utilities to that house.

Jerk Du Jour: MPD
Seriously? Really? No emergency lights and blocking traffic during rush hour? It’s one thing to be lazy, barely competent, and nearly incapable of upholding the law… But this is just stupid.

Sometime back someone mentioned that The City owns 1511 22nd Ave. N. Check the City property information site - it shows CPED as the owner. You need to start verifying your statements!
@ Anon 6:46,
Let's not mince words here, Mr. Meldahl. CPED didn't take ownership of the house until 11/29/2010. CPED prepped the site for demolition. YOU are responsible for letting that house rot for the past six years. You don't get to wash your hands of responsibility because you had that blighted property taken away from you 35 days ago.
Your attempts at dodging responsibility are truly pathetic and obvious.
Just like the city bought and demolished John Hoff's first house because he didn't bring it up to code.
@ Anon 9:55,
No, that's just a lie and you know it. Hoff's first house was bought for the purposes of redeveloping that area into the Eco-Village. The man was living in the house before the deal happened.
Once again, you blog trolls are stuck in the bad habit of lying. Don't you ever get tired of randomly making shit up?
Anon 9:55 and I.I. you're both wrong here (although I.I. is less wrong).
John did not live in the house in the EcoVillage, nor was it torn down because of any failure on his part to bring it up to code. He detailed that story extensively on his blog, but I'm too busy to track down the link right now. It's there though.
The Reader's Digest summary, however is this. The house was not livable when Hoff bought it. He brought several contractors through in an attempt to begin addressing structural issues. While going through that process, he was approached by the local drug dealer/pimp Evannor Haymon (aka "The Devil" on JNS) and a slumlord who was buying up properties left, right and center in Hawthorne, Phil Kliendl.
Instead of selling to either of them (which would have been a huge setback for the EcoVillage), John sold to CPED. Before that transaction closed, he received multiple offers from Haymon and Kliendl that exceeded the amount CPED paid. John kept his word, and prevented either of those bad actors from getting more of a foothold in Hawthorne.
And then John remained committed to using the proceeds to buy a house specifically in Hawthorne.
To HH: What an idiot! Have you ever bought any property in your life, or are you a low life tenant? If you sign a contract you have to live with it - just like a lease! Hoff had no choice. Don't make him out to be some hero for not taking a bigger price!
Oh for Christ's sake. Hoff knew he was going to sell to CPED before he even bought the dump, and Skrenes (HH) gave him the insider information that the city wanted the property. Everyone knows that.
Yeah that's the plot to next week Conspiracy theory with good old Gov Jesse.
