Revitalizer's Manifesto: Home Improvement
This blog thread posted by the Irving Inquisition uses some explicit language, as well as depicting some aspects of life in North Minneapolis that some readers may find objectionable. Reader discretion is advised.
1st Up: Fix Up Your Castle
Commandment #1 of the Revitalizer’s Manifesto: Thou shalt fix thy castle!
Making improvements to your home is the obvious and most straight forward means towards revitalization. It also happens to be the most expensive as well. Most of my projects have been infrastructure in nature. The cosmetic stuff gets put on hold until the necessities have all been addressed.
Every year in the summer, I try to get at least one major home improvement project done on the house. This year was a blow out thanks to the Pohlad foundation and their interests in the Glengale Park area of Forest Heights. I got four home improvement projects done this summer. Checkout the video I made.

Nice work! I like it. Not a big fan of the new windows, though. All right, I'm just kidding there. No, I'm not.
Nice work I.I.
Is that contractor at the beginning the one who did the basement windows? It's rare that you see glass block windows being made the old fashioned way, instead buying the pre-fabbed piece seems to be the default option these days. I'm impressed.
NoMi Passenger,
Yea, Above Quality Masonry did the whole project except for the garden. Generally, the glass block windows are pre-fabbed. I have a few windows in my basement that have kind of goofy dimensions. I've got a little window near the back porch; ironically that one took them the longest to install.
One of the problems is that there are many unlicensed trash collectors in NoMi who will pick up debris in their old truck for a low price, and then dump it where ever they can find. That includes dumping it in an abandoned back yard.
They pick up appliances and strip away the recyclables, and dump the non-recyclable junk anywhere, like over the embankment to the river.
The picture you posted looks like one of these dump jobs.
What a shame! The city government should be alerted about this.
